Washoe County Sheriff's Office Rail Auxiliary Team supports the Reno Tahoe Odyssey. The “RAT Pack” recently supported the Reno Tahoe Odyssey. The team ensured that 230 runners and their support vehicles safely crossed two railroad crossings in Nevada and California. Having trained personnel at these crossings ensured the runners safety and because the RAT Pack knows how to work with the local railroad, they provided the railroad with the required 30 day notice to ensure that train crews were aware of this event. Highlights of the support included keeping a truck from smashing through a downed railroad crossing gate, providing first aid to a runner who had fallen, and talking to a young future railroad employee about railroad safety. All this is a result of the training and experience that the Rail Auxiliary brings to railroad public safety.
